Preschool Program

Our curriculum is designed for children from 3-6 years of age and taught by two fully qualified teachers per class. Through the educational content of our Montessori, Interactive Thinking and Learning-to-Learn programs we would like to present your children with the highly effective tools for discovering the world and people around them. Our program is taught exclusively in English.

Montessori Program

Learning to Learn

A major pillar of the International Preschool in Munich's curriculum is our Learning-to-Learn program. This approach teaches children to think critically, to come up with their own answers and questions - and work in teams right from the beginning. Doing projects in teams not only requires a group to work together, but very importantly, promotes and stimulates the development of active communication skills.

Interactive Thinking

In addition, we include an Interactive Thinking approach throughtout our curriculum. Here, children learn and are motivated to make connections from stories, facts, and learning activities - which can be linked to their daily lives or even used to create new knowledge. We also encourage children to "think laterally" where appropriate - in order to generate creative solutions by looking at things from multiple perspectives.

Circle time

Everyday at the end of the morning program the children come together for circle time. Circle time is a group activity which provides the children with an opportunity to discuss - the calendar, days of the week, the weather, letter and word as well as number recognition.

Lunch time

After circle time the children have lunch. Every day one of the children is given the responsibility to help set the table with place-name cards, a plate, a fork and spoon, a paper napkin and a cup. These utensils also serve as a second function - in that they are a daily symbol for the children that the morning period is at an end. (Hot lunches are provided at an extra cost).

Playing outdoors and field trips

Children at the International Preschool in Munich have numerous opportunities and locations to play outdoors. The Preschool has its own play area on the premises. We also have a sports field (with a sports teacher), park and playground nearby (no more than a 5-minute walk away). On those days that the weather does not permit us to go outdoors we have a special indoor play area where the children can take part in a number of physical activities.

Each school year we plan to go on 2-3 excursions with the children - about which parents will be informed well in advance. Naturally, the best chances for such outings are in Spring and Summer when the weather affords us the possibility. In the past we have taken trips to the botanical gardens, different museums, the zoo, and we have also gone on numerous nature outings.
